The show is created and stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote this piece originally as a one women screenplay. After performing it at Soho Theatre in London the show gained recognition, which enabled it to be adapted into a series by the BBC. Currently, it is available to stream via Amazon Prime.
Fleabag is a dark comedy about a directionless twenty-something living in London who is coping with the recent death of her best friend. It is a mixture of a sit-com and a mystery about what happened between them prior to the accident. Throughout the series, the character breaks the fourth wall (turns to the camera, and tells the viewer what she is really thinking and feeling, usually in the form of a snarky joke), which seems as if she is interacting directly with the viewer.

What I love about Fleabag is that all of the characters are deeply flawed but also smart and funny, sexual but not

sex objects in the eye of the camera - they just feel real

and that makes them extremely relatable. One of the

things

that makes this series stand out is its dark sense of

humour - it is one of those shows, that will make you

laugh out loud

and cry 20 minutes apart. It’s funny, filled with wryness, sarcasm,

and repartee. A perfect one to watch when you’re tired

of seeing flawless characters straight out of an

American movie.
